Since the foundation of self-love is being aware of and meeting your needs, it may seem that simple, basic needs are the only ones of importance. Nutrition, hydration, and sleep are some examples of physical needs. But I’d like to get into identifying and meeting mental and emotional needs.

Some needs in this category can be; rest, allowing yourself to exist imperfectly/as you are in this moment, and tending to your mental health with things like therapy or medication. Our society teaches us about the importance of hard work by means of shaming inactivity. As a result, many believe that their worth is tied to their productivity. Perfectionism is glorified and burnout is not talked about enough.

When you can find the courage to allow yourself to exist as you are in the present moment you are liberated from your own prison. As an ex-perfectionist, allowing myself to exist imperfectly allowed me to discover self acceptance and begin to heal from my own abuse.

Can you allow yourself to exist as you are in this moment?

(That includes allowing yourself to exist tired, distracted, anxious, etc.)
